These Candles We Light: A Chanukah of Resilience and Hope

This year, Hanukkah was a unique opportunity to shine a light on the power of a community. In a series of exciting events across the country, together with the residents, we lit the Hanukkah candles in a variety of destinations. Every place and every community have its own story of dealing with the current war. From the south to the north, the events were a living example of how it is possible to grow back from trauma, and with hope for a safer future.

Lighting a Light in Mishor Hagefen, Ofakim

Following the severe tragedy that occurred in the Mishor Hagefen neighborhood in October 2023, “HaBait BaMishor” became a vibrant community center. At the Hanukkah event held there, a candle was lit to symbolize renewal and rehabilitation. Residents of the neighborhood participated in activities that included children’s classes, stress relief workshops, and community events. The initiative is supported by the Ofakim Municipality, the Metrowest Federation, and the Nathan Association as part of the “Restoring the Spirit” project.

The Great Meaning of Each Candle

This year’s Hanukkah was much more than just lighting candles. It was a reminder of the power of united communities to face challenges, to foster hope, and to spread light even in the most difficult times. Thank you to all the partners, volunteers, and residents who took part in this project.

We will continue to work together to build a future full of light, community, and resilience.
